Madonna's 5 Best TV Performances (VIDEOS)

Whenever Madonna performs on TV it is an event. Thus, on the eve of her Super Bowl halftime show (Feb. 5), we're counting down her top five best TV performances ever. Determined by Billboard.com's foremost Madonna experts, this ranking presents some obvious choices, along with at least one surprise selection. Read on to find out the rankings and relive her blockbuster made-for-TV moments.

5. "Vogue," MTV Video Music Awards (1990)

Backed by her Blond Ambition tour dancers, Madonna closed the 1990 "MTV Video Music Awards," reminding people that the M in MTV stood for Madonna. Decked out in full Marie Antoinette garb, the diva lip-synced her massive Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single before being carried out on a chaise lounge.

4. "Hung Up," The 48th Annual Grammy Awards (2006)

In her third (and most recent) Grammy Awards performance, Madonna and her holographic double mingled with Gorillaz for a show-stopping opening number. After strutting around with the alternative rock act, the diva burst into her top 10 Hot 100 hit "Hung Up" with her incredibly bendy dancers. Another "Hung Up" performance almost made this list, but was edged out (just barely!) by the Grammy gig. Which? Her incredible TV debut performance of "Hung Up" on the MTV Europe Music Awards (watch here).

3. "Like a Virgin," MTV Video Music Awards (1984)

It was the first "MTV Video Music Awards" and Madonna was riding high as one of the network's new young darlings. After scoring a pair of top 10 Hot 100 hits in 1984 with "Borderline" and "Lucky Star," the diva introduced her upcoming single, "Like a Virgin," to the MTV masses on the VMAs. It's one of the most iconic VMA performances in history, thanks in part to Madonna's skin-revealing dance moves (really, she was just rolling around on the floor).

2. "Sooner or Later," The 63rd Academy Awards (1991)

Perhaps a surprising entry on this list is Madonna's performance of the Oscar-winning song "Sooner or Later" on the 1991 Academy Awards. The tune is from her 1990 film "Dick Tracy," which won composerStephen Sondheim the Oscar for best original song. Often noted by fans as one of her best vocal performances, Madonna was in full-Marilyn Monroe mode here, vamping and va-va-vooming her way through the belty number.

1. "Express Yourself," MTV Video Music Awards (1989)

Where to begin? The light-up stairs! The bustiers! The running-man! The crotch-grab! With only two backing dancer/singers (longtime cohorts Niki Haris and Donna De Lory), Madonna showed that you didn't need pyrotechnics and an armada of dancers to heat up a TV stage. (Watch for the 4:15 mark, where Madonna gives us our first taste of her vogueing -- months before she released her smash single "Vogue.")

Carolina Panthers unveil ‘more aggressive’ logo as Nike takes over NFL rights

By the looks of their new logo, the Carolina Panthers are hungry for more improvement in 2012. (AP - AP)

The 2011 Carolina Panthers bore little resemblance to their 2010 predecessors, who finished an NFL-worst 2-14.
With record-breaking rookie quarterback Cam Newton leading the way, the team improved to 6-10 and shed its status as the NFC’s least imposing opponent.
Now the Panthers want to look the part. On Monday, the franchise unveiled a new version of its logo, designed to instill fear in the hearts of its NFC South rivals.
The first alteration to the team’s Panther logo in 18 years features “a more aggressive, contemporary look,” according to the team.
“We have one of the finest and most recognizable logos in the NFL and wanted to make it as modern as possible without losing the dramatic essence of the mark,” Panthers President Danny Morrison said.

And here we thought Carolina’s new logo would just be Cam Newton’s face. (The old logo, seen here). (Gary I Rothstein - AP)
Note the lack of outline around the head, slightly darker shade of “panther blue” and the slightly-less unhinged jaw. (If you didn’t notice the alterations without looking at the new and old logos side by side, you’re not the only one.)

Not quite the overhaul that other pro sports teams experienced this year, but with Newton bringing new hope to the Carolinas, a new look made sense.
It’s unknown what changes this could mean for Carolina’s jerseys, but there could be numerous tweaks — both minor and major — to uniforms across the league with Nike taking over Reebok’s role as the NFL’s official uniform provider next season.
For now, Nike is starting with foot and handwear. The unveiled 32 new glove and shoe designs specific to each team during Sunday’s Pro Bowl. (Check out photos of both here.)
Which team logos and uniforms need an upgrade? And what would you like to see your team sporting on Sundays when the swoosh takeover is complete?

'American Idol' Pitches President Barack Obama Duet with Al Green

0130_algreen_obama_BN

"American Idol" honcho Nigel Lythgoe has balls -- he's asking Prez Obama to come on the show to do the song that made him even more famous -- with Al Green.

Seems Nigel was blown away by Obama's short rendition of "Let's Stay Together" at the Apollo Theater earlier this month.

So Nigel just tweeted the Prez, "We loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to American Idol this Season for a duet with Al Green."

We'd watch.  But is it a good move for the Prez?

‘The Voice’ Season 2 Auditions - and Christina Aguilera Says ...

christina-aguilera
NBC

The Voice‘ is returning for its second season in just over a week, and now NBC has released a promo video previewing the exciting blind audition process.

“The entire show begins with these blind auditions,” Christina Aguilera says at the beginning of the clip. “We have no idea what’s going on behind us, and all we can hear are these sort of quiet footsteps … ‘Cause you’re just waiting on pins and needles for what those first few notes sound like.”

Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green are all back for Season 2, and they’re more amped than ever before. Judging by the clips of the contestants in this video, viewers won’t be disappointed by what’s in store.

“My favorite thing about the blind auditions is that we never sit there and listen to somebody who can’t sing,” Shelton says. “Everybody that steps on that stage is a great performer.”

Details about the contestants have not yet been revealed, but the new promo video offers a glimpse at a handful of voices that are powerful enough to make anyone stop in their tracks — or turn their chairs around.

In other words, these singers are bringing their A-games. Season 2 of ‘The Voice’ premieres on Feb. 5 on NBC, following the Super Bowl.

JUSTIN BIEBER HONORS MICHAEL JACKSON BY SINGING ‘ROCKIN’ ROBIN’

Kevin Winter, Getty Images
Justin Bieber owes a lot to Michael Jackson, and he paid tribute to the King of Pop with some heartfelt words and a sweet a capella rendition of the Jackson’s 5′s ‘Rockin’ Robin.’ The ‘Baby’ singer was at Jackson’s Hand & Footprint Ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Jan. 26 to show some love for the man who inspired him to sing and dance.
Introducing The Biebs was Paris Jackson, who described him as “a performer who also found stardom at a very young age, just like my dad.” It’s hard to believe that Jackson was breaking records more than a decade before JB was born, and sad that they never got to work together, as Paris remarked that “I know my father would’ve wanted to be a mentor to … him.”
Beeb kept it classy and stayed humble, remarking that “I don’t usually get nervous, but I’m a little nervous right now … Michael meant so much to me, and I know he meant a lot to you guys as well. He was more than an entertainer. He was an inspiration.” Right on, Justin! He added that “everything I do, I look at Michael and I’m like ‘I want to be as good as he was.’” Biebs has obviously learned a lot from Michael, not just about singing and dancing, but about rising above your haters and staying on your grind.
Justin knew he couldn’t leave the stage without giving us some of what he does best, and so he closed by saying “I used to look in the mirror and I used to sing ‘Rockin’ Robin’ to myself, when I was really little, so I wanted to sing a little of that to you guys.” He then launched into an a capella version of the song and everybody in the audience was loving it.
“Have a blessed day. And Michael, I love you,” the singer said as he exited the stage. You could tell he meant it.

Costa Concordia Disaster: New Photos Show Ship Hours After It Ran Aground

New photos have surfaced showing the Costa Concordia in the immediate hours after the cruise liner ran aground off the coast of Italy's Isola del Giglio.
The Costa Concordia rammed into a reef and capsized on the night of January 13 when it steered too close to the Tuscan coast. The ship was on a cruise of the Mediterranean and had 4,200 people aboard. The bodies of 16 people killed in the disaster have been found, and 17 remain missing.
The ship's captain, Francesco Schettino, has been accused of manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning the ship before all passengers were evacuated. He is currently under house arrest.
In this pictures taken on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 and made available on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, the luxury cruise ship Costa Concordia lays on its starboard side after it ran aground off the coast of the Isola del Giglio island, Italy, gashing open the hull and forcing some 4,200 people aboard to evacuate aboard lifeboats to the nearby Isola del Giglio island. About 1,000 Italian passengers were onboard, as well as more than 500 Germans, about 160 French and about 1,000 crew members. (AP)

Madonna - Give Me All Your Love (New FULL Song 2012)

Snippets of Madonna’s new single, ‘Give Me All Your Love’, were released earlier today and now the full track has unexpectedly surfaced. However, this version of the Martin Solveig production does not include the previously reported contributions by Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
Madonna is expected to perform ‘Give Me All Your Love’ live alongside Minaj and M.I.A. at Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th 2012. Listen to the record below:

Hopefully, the inclusion of Minaj and M.I.A. will improve this song because it is far from impressive or innovative. The track is glaringly dated and sounds like Dance-oriented version of Madonna’s own ‘Beautiful Stranger’, which, similar to her youth, passed 12 years ago.

Madonna is surely capable of much better than ‘Give Me All Your Love’. With a younger group of Pop stars – most notably Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna – currently dominating the charts, it appears that she has been beaten at her own game.

L-U-V Madonna, Y-O-U You wanna
I see you coming and I don´t wanna know your name
L-U-V Madonna
I see you coming and you´re gonna have to change the game
Y-O-U You wanna, would you like to try?
Give me a reason why, give me all that you got
Maybe you´ll do fine, as long as you don´t lie to me
And pretend to be what you´re not
[Chorus]
Don´t play the stupid game
Cause I´m a different kind of girl
Every record sounds the same
You´ve got to step into my world
Give me all your love and give me your love
Give me all your love today
Give me all your love and give me your love
Let´s forget about time
And dance our lives away
L-U-V Madonna, Y-O-U You wanna
Keep trying don´t give up, it´s if you want it bad enough
L-U-V Madonna
It´s right in front of you, now tell me what you´re thinking of
Y-O-U You wanna, in another place, at a different time
You can be my lucky star, we can drink some wine
Burgundy is fine, let´s drink the bottle every drop
[Chorus]
You have al the L-U-V
I gave you everything you need
Now it´s up to Y-O-U
Are you the one, shall we proceed?
M-A-D Don´t make me, L-U-V It´s time for
Y-O-U It´s up to, L-U-V I want your

'Watch the Throne' Track Featured in 'Safe House' Trailer

The trailer for the politically-charged, action-packed thriller ‘Safe House,’ featuring Denzel Washington as a brilliant CIA operative who has gone off the rails and gone rogue, features the Watch the Throne track ‘No Church in the Wild’ by Kanye West and Jay-Z, with an assist from Frank Ocean, in its trailer.

The trailer is two-and-a-half minutes of nail-biting, blood pressure-raising, don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-something action, with ‘No Church in the Wild’ and its beats and raps unfolding behind the action at about the 1:20 mark.

The song is set to a blow ‘em up action sequence montage, much of which features actor Ryan Reynolds as the man tasked with getting Washington’s rogue agent back in line. The rest of the action pertains to Washington and his attempts to outsmart and evade those looking to capture him. There’s lots of guns firing, cars accelerating, chases, accidents, concerned superiors and pensive looks on the faces of the characters that are smack dab in the middle of all this drama! It’ll certainly push you to the very edge of your movie theater seat.

‘Safe House’ lands at the multiplex on Feb. 10.

Toni Basil – Where Are They Now? (VIDEO)

Toni Basil
Charlie Gillett, Redferns

Although she’s been labeled a one hit wonder for her song ‘Mickey’ — which is actually a revamped cover of the song ‘Kitty‘ by U.K. band Racey — the single brought songstress/dancer Toni Basil (born Antonia Christina Basilotta) so much success, that we’re sure she doesn’t mind her name being tied to the oft-infamous title. Even as we were researching Basil, we couldn’t help but have the chant “Oh Mickey, you’re so fine / you’re so fine, you blow my mind” (which Basil added to her version of the song) playing on repeat in our heads.

In 1982, 29-year-old Toni Basil went from a mostly behind-the-scenes actress/dancer/choreographer/video director to one of the most recognized faces on television, thanks to her cheerleader-themed ‘Mickey’ video that dominated the MTV airwaves. The ‘Mickey’ video, which Basil developed, choreographed and directed, is almost as famous as the song. Basil, who only has two studio albums to her name (not counting greatest hits compilations), also went on to release a few other singles, but none of these tunes saw a comparable amount of airplay to the Platinum-certified song ‘Mickey.’

So, what has Toni Basil been up to in recent years? Click the button below to check out what Ms. Basil has been doing with her vast array of musical talents.

Amazing Effects Between Pencil and Camera (Pics)

"Pencil Vs Camera" mixes drawing and photography, imagination and reality. It’s a new visual concept invented and initiated by Ben Heine in 2010. It's full of magic, illusion, poetry and surrealism. Ben published his first "Pencil Vs Camera" image in April 2010 but the series is the result of a long graphic exploration and a logic consequence of his personal artistic development.

In this series, Ben likes to focus on people’s life, portraits, nature, animals, architecture... Among others, the main themes approached in "Pencil Vs Camera" are: Love, Freedom, After Life, Friendship and Nature. Ben says: "I just make art for people. I want them to dream and forget their daily troubles. I used to write poems many years ago, I want to convey a poetic and philosophical meaning into my pictures, each new creation should tell a story and generate an intense emotion, like a poem, like a melody"

Oscar Nominations 2012

The nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning, and as expected, films about films led the way.
"The Artist," the silent, black and white tribute to old Hollywood, earned a nod for Best Picture, and, after a series of recent critics and guild award wins, is considered the favorite. Writer/director Michel Hazanavicius received nominations for both Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Jean Dujardin was handed a bid for Best Actor for his turn as George Valentin, a silent film star who refuses to move into the era of the talkies; he earned the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy earlier this month. Bérénice Bejo, for her role as starlet Peppy Miller, earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
"Hugo," Martin Scorsese's 3D family homage to film preservation, earned 11 nominations.
"The Descendants," the Alexander Payne-directed dramedy considered the other top awards contender, was also nominated for Best Picture; Payne earned a nod for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, the latter of which he shares with writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. George Clooney, who stars as a beleaguered father, soon-to-be-widower and trustee of sacred family land in Hawaii, earned a nomination for Best Actor; he was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama earlier in January.
"The Help," the tale of domestic workers in segregated Mississippi at the beginning of the Civil Rights era, also earned a Best Picture nod, as well as a nomination for Viola Davis for Best Actress and nods for Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress.
"Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close," the polarizing film about a boy in search of a secret from the father he lost on 9/11, earned a surprise nod for Best Picture, while Steven Spielberg's "War Horse" also slipped in. "Bridesmaids" earned a nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, while Melissa McCarthy got a nod for Best Supporting Actress.
Relative newcomer Rooney Mara got a nomination for Best Actress for her chilling turn in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," though director David Fincher was left out.
